Sappi Somerset, one of North America's largest paper mills, produces vast amounts of graphics and board paper, along with pulp. Originating in 1976 as a greenfield pulp mill, it supplied fiber for Scott paper tissue mills. State-of-the-art coated paper machines were installed in 1982, 1986, and 1990, with significant reinvestments over time. The mill expanded into SBS board grades with the PM1 rebuild in 2018, maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

The Sappi converting facility in Allentown, PA is currently in the process of accepting applications for full-time hourly general production positions.

 

Sappi offers an excellent compensation and benefits package, including but not limited to a starting hourly rate of $22.04, comprehensive healthcare, dental, vision, 401(K), and paid vacation. Within approximately 3 years the rate could be over $27.50 per hour (competency based).

 

Successful candidates can expect to work full-time, which may include 8 and/or 12-hour shifts. The shifts may be scheduled on weekdays, nights and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • We are looking for individuals who can work safely in a manufacturing team environment, problem solve, communicate effectively, and perform a multitude of job functions.
  • We require a high school diploma and good work history. Experience with physically demanding work, military, post-secondary education, and recent job tenure will be considered.

 

Job Duties / Work Environment can consist of but not limited to:

  • Operation of sheeting and converting equipment
  • Operation of powered industrial trucks
  • Exposure to high/low temperatures, noise, odors, dust, and chemicals
  • Working around mechanized industrial equipment
  • Overhead crane and hoist operations
  • Duties that would include sweeping, pushing, pulling, overhead work, lifting, handling high pressure hoses, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and/or standing for long periods.
