The Machinist / Mechanical Journeyman will primarily focus on mill asset repair and maintenance, but will also involve assisting with mechanical downtime maintenance.  This position is assigned to the Machine Shop and is also responsible for safely operating manual machine shop equipment (lathe, mill, drill press, key broacher, balancer).

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work safely and follow all safety guidelines provided (LOTO, PPE, Cardinal rules).
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings and safety talks.
  • Read and understand mechanical blueprints and drawings.
  • Remove and inspect bearings for damage and reuse.
  • Set bearings using the SKF drive up method as well as using feeler gauges.
  • Assist on machine down days and emergency break in work.
  • Use SAP to order parts, enter time, write notifications, and close work orders.
  • Utilize checklists to ensure quality assurance when work is complete.
  • Participate in required training.
  • Perform housekeeping and organization.

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Participate on RCFA teams to determine failure modes and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Keep an open line of communication between Supervisor and fellow Team members.
  • Work with vendors to order parts and supplies as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Two year technical degree in related field and/or two years mechanical/machine shop experience in an industrial or military mechanical maintenance enviroment as a machinist, milti-skilled/craft mechanic, or a similar mechanical craft.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Be a self starter and be able to work alone.
  • Strong mechanical ability.
  • Good computer skills (excel, word, power point, outlook, SAP)
  • Understand machine shop equipment and operation.
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Be able to inspect and set bearings.
  • Ability to work with a variety of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.

 

The hourly wage for this role is $34.98 with progression opportunities up to $42.05/hr.
