Job Specifications/Requirements:  

 

The primary objectives of this role are to develop, communicate, and manage the detailed production plans required for Sappi North America – Cloquet Operations.   The Operations Planner position is responsible for paper machine planning, production optimization, and converting operations including rewinding, sheeters, and outside converting.  This position will facilitate order entry and provide order quoting and Inside Sales support through the Operations Planning Sharepoint / Email box.  The selected individual will be required to have analysis skills and be able to schedule the equipment for optimum efficiency and minimum yield losses while completing orders on time. This position will report directly to the Supply Chain Lead and may be required to backfill as required.   

 

 Responsibilities as a member of the Cloquet Operations Planning Team: 

  • Primary responsibility for paper machine planning, production optimization, and converting operations including rewinding, sheeters, and outside converting
  • Contributor to the order management process from order acceptance into the manufacturing system through shipping
  • Execute the order delay and over/under process ensuring customer commitments are maintained and supported while deviations are effectively communicated to Inside Sales with resolution options
  • Actively understand the order process and understand the customer order requirements
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of what products are produced at the Mill and Converters thereby maximizing the efficiency of the shipments to and from the Mill and Converters
  • Assists in the management of Mill stock through stock allocation utilizing all converting resources, as well as seconds and broke disposition
  • Work cross functionally between Operations Planning, Logistics, and Inside Sales to insure synchronization of customer requirements and various IT systems data to support a reliable Available-To-Promise (ATP) process
  • Maintain regular communication with all members of Mill Operations, Supply Chain, Technical Services including routine and ad hoc conference calls and/or production meetings as needed
  • Participate in various Mill and Supply Chain Management projects along with being a member on selected LSS Projects
  • Comply with ISO certification
  • Support and participate in all Mill Safety programs and activities required

 

Additional less frequent responsibilities

  • Backfill for the Supply Chain Lead position as needed
  • Travel to customers, converters, and other SNA locations

 

Special Skills including license certification

  • APICS supply chain certification encouraged (or ability to obtain within 2 years)
  • Experience in supply chain management
  • Paper Industry experience a plus
  • Methodical problem-solving ability
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Solid personal computer skills including proficiency in MS Excel
  • Proven experience in data analysis and report generation
  • Knowledge and experience with Mill Execution Systems and/or SAP preferred
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills (including written & presentations)
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and conflicting priorities with confidence and speed

 

Working Conditions

  • Office setting within a mill manufacturing environment
  • Participate in call rotation with 24/7 availability

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or equivalent; or
  • Five years production scheduling experience within a manufacturing environment
