Overview
As the Wood Yard Coordinator, you’ll lead a dedicated team to maintain a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient wood yard operation—ensuring maximum quality production at minimum cost. This role is all about leadership, coaching, and developing teams capable of running an effective operation with minimal intervention.
This position works days Monday - Friday.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure a safe work environment for all team members.
- Conduct weekly Wood Yard inventories, including Sundays before month-end.
- Complete month-end reports for the Wood Prep Area.
- Carry a company phone and participate in the on-call rotation for the Pulp Mill.
- Take an active role in Woodroom operations and provide coverage when the Maintenance System Lead or Superintendent is absent, as well as shift supervisor coverage in other pulp areas.
- Enforce safety rules and procedures; lead safety training and programs.
- Drive safety improvement activities such as Risk Assessments, Team Safety Projects, and Safety Talks.
- Coach and equip team members with tools to perform duties safely and efficiently.
- Evaluate crew performance and support individual development.
- Collaborate with Maintenance on equipment issues, troubleshooting, and entering work requests.
- Schedule equipment and related orders effectively.
- Ensure compliance with all contractual commitments under the Labor Agreement.
- Develop and update SOPs for all equipment with operating teams.
- Facilitate on-shift process improvements to reduce variability, increase uptime, improve quality, and minimize costs.
- Identify gaps in team performance and implement training and process improvements.
What You Bring
- Education: Engineering bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
- Experience: 3–5 years in a supervisory role within manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Wood Yard operations, Woodroom, Pulping, and U&R preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite; experience with Proficy and SAP is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results through people.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or willingness to train and lead projects.
