We’re on the lookout for an experienced Government and Community Relations Specialist to build and manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and other external groups. This includes promoting Sappi’s initiatives, fostering positive relationships, and addressing community concerns.
As a Government and Community Relations Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Implement the stakeholder engagement strategy in line with agreed outcomes as indicated by the Stakeholder relations Lead.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with provincial, local government officials, and traditional leaders, enhancing Sappi's corporate reputation.
- Lead community meetings and forums, ensuring all relevant stakeholders are informed about company activities, including recruitment, social impact programs, and procurement processes.
- Develop and deliver presentations on Sappi's shared value approach and social impact initiatives, promoting community involvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams internally (communications, operations, marketing) to promote government and community initiatives through various communication channels.
- Participate in and advise on amicable resolutions of community issues, ensuring alignment with legal and practical considerations.
- Contribute to stakeholder engagement reports, documenting issues raised and resolutions achieved.
- Ensure messaging with community stakeholders aligns with Sappi's shared value focus.
- Support the implementation of social impact programs and initiatives at the local level.
- Draft and distribute various communications materials promoting the company and its initiatives.
- Represent Sappi at relevant local events and activities to build relationships with key community members.
- Manage and maintain a stakeholder database, including information on issues, relationships, and stakeholder sentiment.
- Prepare and contribute to monthly reports on community engagement and government relations initiatives.
- Assist with monthly reporting to community structures regarding local involvement.
What are we looking for?
- NQF6 qualification (National Diploma/Degree) in Public Relations, Communications, Government Affairs, or a related field.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in community relations or government affairs.
- Experience in managing and analysing stakeholder data.
