As an R&D Senior Laboratory Specialist you will support our developments in breakthrough Packaging concepts, Specialty papers, and adjacent fields by planning, executing, analyzing and reporting complex laboratory investigations. Be prepared to dive into a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment focused on bio-based materials.

In this role you will be reporting directly to the Leading Senior Laboratory Specialist.

 

Role and responsibilities:

  • You will be setting up and executing lab experimental programs of standard to high complexity with focus on developments in the packaging and specialty area as well as new technologies.
  • It is expected that you will take ownership and act independently. Assist the project leader in reporting and presenting lab work in a decent way.
  • Besides lab work, you will elaborate sub projects under guidance of the project leader.
  • You will provide optimal support in projects by the selection and application of the available lab analytical methods used within R&D
  • You will assist in developing and implementing new lab test methods, when the existing are unsuitable.
  • You will interact with other groups within Sappi, such as other Competence Centers in R&D and Innovation.

 

Required qualifications:

  • You have at least a HBO degree with several years’ experience or a Master degree with a technical background in (bio-)chemistry, (bio-)material science, physics, pulp and paper technology or other related fields
  • You have a structured way of working and are detail oriented.
  • You are a proactive team player as well as able to act independently.
  • You have fluent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • You are an “out of the box” thinker with an entrepreneurial spirit and you have leadership qualities
