We’re on the lookout for an experienced Process Controller : Steam effectively produce steam at the correct pressures and temperatures by burning coal and fuel in the most efficient, economic and safe way.


As an Process Controller : Steam, you will be responsible for:

 

  • Takes and hand over shift.
  • Implement Foreman’s shift plan by carrying out and delegating tasks to achieve Steam, Air and Water requirements.
  • Implement the production activities to sustain quality standards and plant efficiency.
  • Participates in team problem solving and production program development in order to determine root cause of problems.
  • Monitors operations of Ash plant, Grit refiring, Soot blowers, Hydroseals, Boiler fans and fires by routine inspections.
  • Controls Boiler drum level to prevent low or high water damage, by observing recording charts and eye high gauges, standby gauge glass and manually making adjustments as required.
  • Ensures coal supply, by checking coal bunkers and controls stoker coal feeder, grate speed, and temperatures to suit observed boiler bed/fire conditions.
  • Ensures that Ash, Coal, Water samples are taken on request for each boiler.
  • Prepares Boiler before lighting the fire by physically carrying out a prestart check according to Best Operating Practice.
  • Starts boiler by raising the temperature and pressure to manufacturer’s specifications and according to Best Operating Practice.
  • Banks Boiler when steam is not required by controlling coal supply, air and water to maintain the Boiler at just below working pressure, until the demand for steam is increased at which point the Boiler must be ranged within 10 minutes.
  • Shuts down Boiler as per manufacturer’s specifications and according to
  • Best Operating Practice and checklist.
  • Records hourly readings on Lims or a log sheet, from which he observes and interprets the data and takes action as required.
  • Prevents damage to the Boiler in emergency conditions such as feed water variation, power failure, air failure and bad fire conditions, by taking all necessary actions.
  • Liaises with maintenance department and raise notifications (via SAP) to carry out all minor as well as major repairs to plant.
  • Ensures the safe sampling of Boiler water for analysis, and complies with the required blow down of Boiler drums to control Boiler water specifications.
  • Ensures the safe operation of the Gas Fired Boilers and regularly monitors gas pressure.
  • Changes stoker V- Belts when required.
  • Monitor and Control the running of the Compressors, to maintain air supply to the Mill.
  • Monitor and Control the steam reducing stations (Kalle/Hagan)
  • Monitor and Control the De Super Heating requirements of steam
  • Monitor and Control domestic water to compressors as cooling medium.
  • Monitor and Control Ash pit levels.
  • Addresses all Steam, Air and Water related queries.
  • Provide accurate information/ inputs for the production statistics and appropriate action taken.
  • Completes SAP notifications for maintenance requests in accordance with business process standards.
  • Identify inefficiencies in Best Operating Practices and propose changes.
  • Completes Isolation procedure as & when requested from Eng./Production/Contractors.
  • Completes spill reports (environmental).
  • Ensures a safe working environment with the development of safety and housekeeping strategies.
  • Ensures that the Section complies in all respects with the relevant.

 

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum experience 6 months plant operations Experience
  • Matric plus N3 Pulp and Paper Certificate (4 subjects)
  • N4 to N6 Pulp and Paper / Boiler Certificate will advantageous
