We’re on the lookout for a Relief Operator: Process Controller (NSSC) to monitor and control the NSSC Digester to ensure maximum production, plant availability and quality standards according to best operating practice.


As a Relief Operator: Process Controller (NSSC), you will be responsible to:

  • Takes and hands over shift whilst ensuring that the plant is prepared for start-up.
  • Starts & Stops the NSSC Digester and auxiliaries on instruction from the Foreman NSSC.
  • Monitors and Controls the NSSC pulping process by running the digester in balance with cooking and extraction liquors ensuring that a uniform quality pulp is produced within the laid down parameters.
  • Monitors the change over of wood species for cooking on the NSSC digester.
  • Carries out calibration test on cooking liquor and buffer liquor flow controllers is carried out.
  • Ensure that plant is kept clean by supervising plant cleaning staff (contractors) on day shift (i.e. liquor spills, split chips).
  • Implements Foreman’s shift plan by carrying out and delegating tasks to achieve steam requirements.
  • Implements the production activities (shuts, starts ups, checks, log sheets, graph trends, resources, etc.) to sustain quality standards and plant efficiency.
  • Participates in team problem solving and production program development in order to determine root cause of problems
  • Liaises with other sections on running conditions to optimize quality and quantity within the process parameters
  • Communicate effectively using appropriate channels in order to achieve the desired results in respect of the shift plan.
  • Coach team members towards better understanding of plant operating procedures.
  • Assist Foreman NSSC in developing the competencies of employees.
  • Provides accurate information/ inputs for the production statistics and appropriate action taken, (rework, comebacks, breakdowns, defects, downtime losses, start-up and yield losses, idling and minor stoppages, adjustment losses etc.)
  • Completes SAP notifications for maintenance requests in accordance with business process standards.
  • Identify inefficiencies in Best Operating Practices and propose changes.
  • Completes and signs Isolation procedure book.
  • Fills in the process data onto the plant quality log sheet and enters process data into the computer.
  • Records all shift running conditions in the shift log book, re, process changes, alterations to plant and equipment, all repairs carried out and problems experienced during shift

 

What are we looking for?

 

Relevant Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric and N4 Pulp & Paper Certificate (4 subjects) and/or relevant NQF Level 5 qualification.
  • Computer Literate (MS Office Package).
  • Minimum (3) years’ Plant Operations Experience.
  • Supervisory Experience – will be advantageous
