We’re on the lookout for an experienced Gum Chipper Operator to supply sufficient, quality chips to the NSSC digester to ensure optimum plant efficiency and minimise downtime.
As a Gum Chipper Operator, you will be responsible to:
- Conducts Plant inspection to ensure that the equipment is in a safe working condition.
- Operates fork lift to transport chipper Knives, bed knives.
- Prepare Gum Plant up to Screens for start-up and shut down according to production and quality requirements.
- Monitors chipping process in respect of quality and takes corrective action where necessary e.g.(high fines, excessive slivers and cards)
- Clear blockages in chipper spout, conveyors etc.
- Changes knives, bed knife as and when required.
- Assist Engineering staff with plant maintenance e.g. changing knife holders, Wear plates, conveyor idlers change, etc.
- Conducts Isolation permits on request from Eng. And Cleaning Staff.
- Operates Over Head Crane to clear blockages.
- Monitor Silo levels.
- Use of Safety harness when operating Chipper.
- Cleans bark strainer and sand settling out bays below Aero conveyor and stairway.
- Reports on all defects and equipment malfunctions to Pulp Foreman and Eng. Personnel.
- Regularly Inspects equipment for preventative maintenances purposes.
- Ensure Timber rotation is taking place
- Instructs Contractors feeding and offloading logs of daily shift plans.
- Random quality checks on trucks delivering logs for compliance.
- Ensure regular inspection of Safety harness, send to riggers for compliances
- Complete section checklist and log book.
What are we looking for?
- N3 Pulp and Paper (4 subjects)
- Minimum of (1 to 3) years’ experience within the paper making environment.
- Computer Literacy (SAP & MS Office)
- SAP knowledge will be advantageous
