We’re on the lookout for Production Manager - Chemical to ensure effective management of the Chemical section through optimum production output with the required quality and minimum downtime, whilst maintaining extremely high safety standards.      

 

As a Production Manager - Chemical you will be responsible for:

Operational Excellence

  • Drive process efficiency across the Chemical Section by applying Lean Manufacturing principles to improve productivity and quality.
  • Plan and manage plant operations, including shutdowns and maintenance activities, to ensure optimal resource utilization and minimal disruption.
  • Implement engineering and maintenance standards in alignment with best practices and the Mill’s strategic objectives.
  • Align departmental goals with overall Mill targets to ensure consistent and integrated operations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support effective collaboration and service delivery.
  • Ensure full compliance with all operational procedures and business processes in the area of responsibility.

 

Engaged and Developed Workforce

  • Manage all HR functions within the Chemical Cellulose Plant, including performance management, career development, training, mentoring, goal alignment, and compliance with labour legislation.
  • Conduct bi-annual performance appraisals for team members, supported by regular coaching, feedback, and individual development planning.
  • Ensure workforce competency and productivity through structured training programs, regular assessments, and mentorship initiatives.

 

Cost Control and Financial Management

  • Prepare, control, and monitor budgets, including forecasts for capital expenditure, fixed, and variable costs, ensuring financial discipline.
  • Report monthly on budget performance, highlighting variances and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead CAPEX planning, ensuring proposals are well justified, aligned with business needs, and managed within approved limits.

 

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with legal and regulatory standards, including the OHS Act, ISO 45001, ISO 9002, ISO 14000, and ISO 50001, by enforcing appropriate control measures and corrective actions.

 

What are we looking for?

  • BTech in Pulp and Paper, or BSc/BEng/BTech in Chemical Engineering.
  • At least 5 Years of relevant production experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 1 Year in a supervisory or acting leadership role.
  • Experience in Utilities, Chemical, or Recovery operations will be advantageous.
