We’re on the lookout for an experienced Senior Environmental Technician to regulate and enforce mill compliance to environmental policies, procedures and objectives, adhering to the requirements of external environmental authorities and legal licences and implement environmental tasks and reporting of environmental performance internally.

 

As a Senior Environmental Technician, you will be responsible for:

Environmental Management System, Policies, and Procedures

  • Monitor adherence to the environmental management system.
  • Implement and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 accredited systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Safety and Environmental requirements.

Reporting

  • Compile and present environmental reports for management review.
  • Report environmental performance to the Environmental Specialist and/or Environmental/Risk Manager.

Audits & Inspections

  • Analyze audit results to ensure actions are taken.
  • Conduct environmental inspections around plants.
  • Check procedures, work instructions, registers, and policies for implementation.
  • Implement plant surveys (dust, noise, energy, etc.).
  • Participate in audits and prepare for internal and external environmental audits.

Environmental Awareness and Training

  • Conduct environmental inductions and awareness sessions.
  • Prepare content for training and awareness campaigns.
  • Plan and execute environmental emergency preparedness drills.
  • Analyze training records to ensure effectiveness and identify gaps.
  • Facilitate training with the training department.
  • Fulfill standby duties.

Legal/Legislation

  • Research and provide input on relevant legislation proposals.
  • Stay updated on environmental legal regulations.
  • Advise on Basic Assessments/Environmental Impact Assessments as needed.

Compliance and Monitoring

  • Collect and analyze data for legal compliance reports.
  • Monitor waste disposal and ensure safe disposal certificates.
  • Oversee air, water, waste, and energy monitoring.
  • Coordinate emissions testing, sampling, and monitoring.
  • Interpret data and provide guidance on environmental performance.
  • Ensure corrective actions and mitigation measures are implemented.

Risks, Incidents, and Complaints

  • Identify environmental risks and implement mitigation measures.
  • Investigate incidents (root cause analysis) and ensure closure.
  • Maintain the environmental risk profile of the mill.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide input for incident investigations.
  • Capture deviations and provide solutions.

Operational

  • Assist with environmental management during shutdowns and projects.
  • Act as Environmental Specialist when required.
  • Analyze data and samples for projects aimed at reducing waste, water/effluent, air emissions, and energy.

 

What are we looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree or National Diploma in Environmental Management or Chemical Engineering.
  • 3- 5 years of experience in Environmental Management and compliance implementation within manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in Environmental Legislation and Licencing processes.
