We’re on the lookout for an experienced Buyer to ensure efficient and compliant procurement of goods and services for multiple mills, guided by established procurement policies and sourcing strategies.

 

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for:

  • Source and procure materials and services according to specifications, ensuring alignment with procurement policies and sourcing strategies.
  • Provide category management support and insights to assist Commodity and Sourcing Managers.
  • Oversee quality control processes and ensure supplier compliance with established procedures.
  • Issue certificates of conformance as required.
  • Contribute to achieving procurement savings goals.
  • Support Sappi’s BBBEE preferential procurement and enterprise development objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for items to be placed under contract and highlight these to the Commodity Specialist.
  • Draft and implement supply agreements and consignment stock agreements.
  • Upload and maintain contracts within the SAP system.
  • Draft variations to Sappi’s Terms and Conditions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Sappi Legal counsel on formal contracts and amendments to Terms and Conditions.
  • Implement and monitor effective expediting procedures.
  • Maintain and update vendor master data.
  • Participate in multi-functional sourcing teams.
  • Manage the tender process, including issuing invitations, arranging site meetings, and evaluating submissions.
  • Provide daily reports on price and quantity changes, including buyers’ explanations.
  • Initiate vendor applications and complete necessary documentation.
  • Coordinate with the technical department on specifications or tested samples, addressing variances and notifying suppliers promptly (raise deviations).
  • Address and rectify deviations resulting from poor workmanship.

 

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Supply Chain Management or a related field.
  • SAP MM experience is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an industrial, procurement, or materials management environment.
  • Experience in a technical or manufacturing environment is a plus.
