We Are Hiring! Environmental Manager at Sappi Ngodwana Mill

Sappi Ngodwana Mill is looking for a skilled Environmental Manager to lead and manage our Environmental Management System (EMS). In this role, you will ensure regulatory compliance, drive continuous improvement, and support certification for ISO 14001, ISO 50001, FSC, and PEFC. This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and review the EMS to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
• Manage the environmental department’s business plan, including personnel, assets, equipment, vehicles, and major contracts.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to meet ISO certifications, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
• Prepare and present environmental performance reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Promote environmental awareness across employees and contractors through targeted communication.
• Test and coordinate emergency plans, including regular drills and team preparations.
• Ensure legal and regulatory compliance, including managing permits, licenses, and incident reporting.
• Support energy and sustainability objectives, focusing on greenhouse gas reductions and ISO 50001 compliance.

Ideal Candidate:

• Postgraduate or Honours degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, or a related environmental management field.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in environmental management and compliance within the manufacturing industry.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and licensing processes.
• At least 2 years’ experience in team management and leadership.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant computer applications.
