Sappi Southern Africa is looking for a qualified and experienced Millwright to carry out first-line breakdown maintenance on a shift basis, with a focus on optimising production and reducing plant downtime. This role reports to the Millwright Superintendent.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical breakdowns across the mill.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and replacements on equipment such as pumps, valves, gearboxes, fans, bearings, and other machinery.
  • Overhaul mechanical systems, including replacing seals and bearings.
  • Align rotating equipment and manage rigging tasks (up to 1 ton).
  • Perform basic arc welding on low-pressure pipes and carry out flame cutting on bolts, flanges, etc.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults in motors, control circuits, and PLCs, making necessary repairs.
  • Rewire damaged electrical components and replace electric motors and driven machinery.
  • Use SAP to log maintenance notifications, order spare parts, and assist with the commissioning of new or repaired equipment.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • NQF Level 4 Qualification (Grade 12 / N3 Engineering) and a Millwright Trade Test certification.
  • A minimum of 2 years' post-trade test experience as a Millwright in a heavy industrial environment.
