We’re on the lookout for a Process Controller in Training - Newsprint to safely and efficiently operate Newsprint equipment under his/her control to ensure optimal production output and quality, while maintaining cost efficiency and minimizing downtime, rejections, and effluent.

 

As an Process Controller in Training - Newsprint you will be responsible for:

  • Perform pre-start inspections according to making sheet and best operating practices.
  • Start up and shut down the Newsprint Wet End in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Monitor and control visual and physical paper properties, taking corrective action when required.
  • Optimise furnish mixes in line with production requirements and quality standards.
  • Check consistencies against laboratory results and take corrective action on discrepancies.
  • Monitor and control effluent flows, fresh water usage, and cleaning sequences for felt and wire.
  • Identify and report operational problems, abnormal conditions, and equipment defects.
  • Complete exception reports and record downtime accurately in the OEE system.
  • Perform shutdown tasks, including isolations and lock-out procedures in line with safety requirements.
  • Operate equipment such as overhead cranes safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with all SHEQ requirements, including hazard identification, BBS observations, and risk mitigation.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and provide on-the-job training to trainees.

 

What are we looking for?

  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science, and relevant NQF Level 5 qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on a Paper Machine manufacturing process.
  • Valid Outside Operator licence.
