Join Sappi Ngodwana and make a real impact by leading accredited artisan training and community development programmes at our state-of-the-art Skills Centre. In this role, you will plan, deliver, and govern technical training, while managing the Skills Centre facility, including safety, maintenance, and budgets.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an annual Skills Centre training plan aligned to QCTO, mill needs, apprentice development, and community objectives.
  • Ensure all technical training content, curricula, and trade test preparation meet QCTO, SETA, NAMB, and plant-ready standards.
  • Manage Skills Centre accreditation, including inspections, documentation, equipment readiness, and engagement with external assessors.
  • Oversee apprentice development across all phases: mentoring, in-plant evaluations, phase testing, and trade test invigilation.
  • Take full responsibility for site operations, including safety, security, housekeeping, PPE, stores, budgets, and CAPEX support.
  • Lead, develop, and performance-manage the Skills Centre team, providing coaching in practical training and learner management.
  • Ensure learning governance and compliance, including record-keeping, LMS data integrity, audits, reporting, and BEE requirements.
  • Manage trainee recruitment, discipline, external training providers, sponsorship costings, and stakeholder engagements.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
  • Trade test qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Civil
  • Accredited and registered Assessor and Moderator for one or more of the listed trades
  • Diploma in Education and Training (advantageous)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a trade-tested artisan in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a technical trainer
  • Experience in facilities management (advantageous)
  • Experience as a Training Supervisor (advantageous)
