Sappi North America seeks a detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator to ensure accurate, timely payroll processing across all North America locations. This role supports compliance with tax laws, company policies, and labor agreements while providing responsive service to employees and HR partners. The position requires strong payroll knowledge, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly hourly and bi-weekly salaried payrolls; enter changes, deductions, and adjustments.
- Ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with federal/state laws and collective bargaining agreements.
- Maintain payroll records and process payments to third parties.
- Prepare payroll reports, tax documents, verifications, and assist with audits.
- Complete SAP general ledger entries and payroll account reconciliations.
- Resolve payroll issues, respond to employee inquiries, and partner with HR on benefits, deductions, and accruals.
- Recommend process improvements and support internal controls.
Qualifications
- Associate/bachelor’s in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- 2–3+ years payroll experience, ideally in a manufacturing/unionized environment with 2,000+ employees.
- Experience with SAP, ADP, or similar systems; strong knowledge of payroll laws and taxes.
- High attention to detail, confidentiality, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Excel/Word.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and provide flexible hours during peak periods (holidays, month-end, year-end).
