The Senior Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating and managing customer credit risk to ensure sound decision-making and protection of Sappi North America’s financial position. This role supports the Director of Shared Financial Services in assessing creditworthiness, monitoring customer exposure, managing credit limits, and contributing to process improvements within the Order-to-Cash function.

The Senior Credit Analyst serves as a subject matter expert in credit evaluation, collaborating with internal stakeholders to balance risk mitigation with commercial opportunity. The role influences decisions through detailed analysis, recommendations, and cross-functional communication but does not carry direct policy or managerial authority.

Main Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and analyze customer credit applications, financial statements, and payment history to determine credit limits and terms.
  • Recommend credit decisions and risk mitigation strategies to management within defined authority levels.
  • Support the administration of the company’s credit insurance program, including reporting, claim documentation, and coordination with providers.
  • Monitor customer account status and payment behaviors to identify early warning indicators of potential risk.
  • Assist in preparing credit risk reports, exposure summaries, and portfolio analyses for management review.
  • Support internal stakeholders (Sales, Finance, and Accounts Receivable) in resolving credit-related disputes and inquiries.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at streamlining credit review workflows and enhancing data quality.
  • Contribute to global Order-to-Cash alignment efforts by providing analytical input and regional insights.
  • Maintain accurate credit master data, documentation, and reporting in SAP and related systems.
  • Provide analytical and functional guidance to less-experienced analysts as needed.
  • Provide support as required for other financial and accounting functions to support the Shared Financial Services group, including period-end financial closings, and periodic reporting.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
  • 5–7 years of experience in credit analysis or a related financial role.
  • Proven ability to interpret and assess financial data for risk assessment.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with sales, finance, and operations teams.
  • Familiarity with credit insurance programs and global business processes preferred.
