Sappi North America is a division of Sappi Limited, a global company headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, with manufacturing operations on four continents in nine countries with sales offices in 50 countries. The Cloquet Mill, located on the banks of the St. Louis River, produces some of the highest quality heavyweight web and sheet fed products in the world. The original mill opened in 1898 and has undergone a variety of changes and improvements over the years, most-recently (2013) to convert the pulp mill into a producer of Verve, a dissolving wood pulp used primarily for the textile markets. With the conversion, the pulp mill is now able to swing between dissolving wood pulp and Kraft pulp based on market needs. With a focus on responsible and sustainable operations, the Cloquet Mill is focused on energy savings improvements which have led to local, state, and national environmental recognition.

Essential Position Responsibilities
• Communicate all corporate sourcing initiatives (and their potential impact) to mill leadership.
• Function in the role of Commodity Manager for a given spend category (i.e. Maintenance, Repair and Operating (MRO) Supplies/Industrial Services) for all of Sappi North America.
• Responsible for analyzing the spend, developing spend sub-groupings and sourcing strategies, and implementing the strategic sourcing process leading to more effective third party spend.
• Responsible for making sure that the appropriate mill level procurement activities necessary to support mill operations occur efficiently while delivering the required results.
• Provide leadership and guidance to the on-site Procurement Team
• Assist Commodity Managers to develop comprehensive and professional sourcing plans and to complete internal data discovery, scope and specification development, market due diligence, competitive intelligence, RFIs and RFPs
• Collect and evaluate RFIs and RFPs (as appropriate) using best in class sourcing tools, techniques and business practices
• Negotiate complex agreements, statements of work, and service level agreements, with manufacturers, distributors, and service providers, either singly or as part of a team
• Facilitate Sappi’s internal process for approval, execution and lifecycle management of agreements
• Lead implementation and rollout of negotiated agreements to ensure full utilization and supplier compliance with negotiated terms
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement through structural cost reduction and performance improvement, involving suppliers, as required
• Assist Commodity Managers in developing compelling business case/analysis to drive meaningful change in process, supplier or material as appropriate to meet sourcing/strategic objectives
• Measure supplier performance against key business objectives. Participate in formal supplier business reviews, including but not limited to supplier evaluations, supplier audits and other related activities
• Analyze commodity spend data and define spend subgroups
• Establishes and builds upon relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to increase competitive bidding and bring value to the organization
• Assure Procurement compliance with ISO Certification(s) responsibilities
• Promote and support Sappi’s sustainability initiatives in procurement including forestry certification, adherence to Sappi’s Supplier Code of Conduct and working with suppliers to meet Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiatives
• Uphold the highest standards of trust, integrity and fairness consistent with Sappi’s Code of Ethics

• Experience with ERP Systems such as SAP is considered a plus
