Overview:

Provides leadership in developing, managing, coordinating and implementing effective Property Protection programs and processes at the Somerset Mill. Provides guidance to all departments to ensure compliance with all Company and regulatory standards. Reports to the Health & Safety Manager.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates Facility General Liability and Plant Property Protection Programs – to protect the financial and legal interests of Sappi Somerset through respective risk management processes.

  • Site representative to Local Emergency Planning Committee, State Emergency Response Committee, Central Maine Emergency Response Team, etc.

  • Supervise Plant Protection Department comprised of 15-16 plant protection professionals

  • Contract administration, management, and maintenance of North America Safety & Health management information systems – including OHM, Workingbird, Dolphin and others.

  • Oversee fire protection system operations.

  • Coordinate and participate in fire protection insurance and inspection programs, site risk management reviews, and general liability program management.

  • Provides leadership in developing, managing, coordinating and implementing effective Health and Safety programs and processes at the Somerset Mill

  • Site representative to Local Emergency Planning Committee, State Emergency Response Committee, Central Maine Emergency Response Team, etc.

  • Manage the site Radiation Protection Program. Radiation Safety Officer

  • Execute other duties as assigned by Health and Safety Manager

  • Provide on-call and/or shift coverage as needed.

  • Manage Site Security Plan

 

Entry Requirements:

  • College degree (Health and Safety or Engineering preferred) or 10 years of equivalent experience.

  • 3 years of related work experience

 

Special Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Formal training or acquired knowledge in Federal, State, Local safety and Health & Security regulations.

  • Ability to manage a workforce – day-to-day schedule and activities.

  • A true passion for safety and health with a focus on employee involvement and continuous improvement.

  • Proven change management skills.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) as well as basic computer skills.

  • Familiar in working with an OHSAS or ISO Management System.

  • Data driven decision-making.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Basic understanding of working with organized labor.
