We are hiring!
We're on the lookout for an experienced Forester - Khulisa to oversee and coordinate the implementation and achievement of operational plans and targets for silviculture and wood fibre delivery within budget and SHEQ parameters and ensure sustainable fibre supply to markets.
As a Forester (Khulisa), you will be responsible for:
- Prepare re-establishment Annual Plan Operations (APO) using Total Unplanted (TUP); Silviculture and Harvesting APO to ensure the re-establishment budget is implemented and TUP targets are achieved
- Prepare land & re-establish (planting and coppice) according to Sappi’s BOP standards and quality expectations using the RMS; APO (silviculture and harvesting) to achieve Temporary Unplanted targets within budget constraints; lower risk exposure and improve efficiencies.
- Monitor and manage plant use efficiency by tracking consumption against order including confirmed infield plantings to ensure plants are accounted for and costs are within budget
- Track and monitor seedlings tray movement by keeping an up-to-date record of deliveries at transit nursery and nursery returns to ensure establishments are within budget constraints
- Prepare maintenance APO using silviculture and harvesting APO together with TUP to ensure that implementation of APO is timeous to keep sots within budget
- Develop a phased-harvest plan per compartment using the harvesting APO working with both the grower and the contractor to ensure shared responsibility and guarantee rateable Woodfibre supply to the market
- Conduct a risk assessment per compartment pre- and interim harvesting operation to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards
- Monitor Woodfibre quality and production rates by conducting interim operational inspections to ensure adherence to daily production targets and Mill quality specifications
- Assist growers to identify fire associated risks and in implementing fire control measures using RMS to ensure the effective protection of people, plantations and other assets from wild plantation fires
- Prepare and integrate alien plant management plan in the crop maintenance plan by conducting infield infestation assessment levels to ensure growers’ operations comply with legal requirements
- Ensure that relations with communities and other internal & external stakeholders are effectively maintained & managed to ensure company image is upheld, risks mitigated, and relationships enhanced.
- Maintain a professional relationship with suppliers’ service providers, and ensure that quality, delivery and compliance standards as set out in the job instruction system and Sappi BOP standards are adhered to.
What are we looking for?
- National Diploma in Forestry, Agriculture, Horticulture
- Up to one-year of relevant experience.
- Valid code 08 driver’s License
