Facilities Engineer
Major Job Responsibilities:
The role involves engineering, maintenance, and operational support of facilities, pilot plant and manufacturing support systems. The incumbent will use his or her knowledge and experience in chemical or mechanical engineering to manage multiple projects simultaneously coordinating outside contractors to meet the needs of R&D. The applicant must be a highly capable engineer with the ability to fulfill the following accountabilities:
- Conduct all phases of expensed or capital project engineering (pre-engineering, cost estimation, bid request, project approval, site preparation, installation, startup, and acceptance).
- Operate and maintain systems and equipment associated with the Technology Center facility, pilot operations, and manufacturing support facility in South Windham.
- Manage safety systems required to complete work with Sappi employees or contracted service providers
- Conduct all activities with a focus on maintaining and improving a safe work environment
- Effectively assist with all aspects of manufacturing support operation at the South Windham facility. This operation requires 24-hour coverage (12-hour shifts) for one week at a time, 2-4 times per year on average.
- Manage contracted service providers to complete projects efficiently and effectively.
Education and Skills Requirements:
- Ability to work in a cross-functional atmosphere to provide support and technical leadership for strategic projects.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of technology to contribute to successful completion of projects.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize development work and assess feasibility.
- Must have authorization to permanently work in the US.
- Proven work experience as a project engineer with demonstrated experience leading successful project teams
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products, computer aided design (CAD) software, and other engineering and design related computer applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of rules, safety regulations, best practices, and performance standards
- Project management and supervision skills with demonstrated ability to work with multiple discipline projects
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within multiple concurrent project timelines
- Demonstrated capability of working with contracted service providers to complete work assignments
- Knowledge of operation and design of facility systems such as HVAC, fire alarms, compressed air, steam, etc.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a State of Maine Boiler License
- Ability to learn and participate in thermal spray operations
- Engaged and motivated learner with demonstrated hands-on capability
- Must demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and work with all levels of management and hourly personnel
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- BS Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 2-6 years’ experience
