With over 200 textures available, recognized brands and designers use Sappi patterns in an array of products including garments, shoes, hang bags, upholstery, and laminate products.

 

 

Position Summary:

 

The Westbrook Mill is currently looking for a process engineer to provide technical, process, and production engineering support for the Ultracast coating operation.  The successful individual will optimize the performance of the process to improve operational efficiency and identify and implement projects to maintain and improve the safety, productivity, quality, and cost effectiveness of the operation. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Improves existing processes to achieve business objectives by:
    • Managing the Centerlining program
    • Implementing best practices
    • Establishing operating procedures and standard work
    • Training operators on MICS data processing
    • Improving process capability
    • Evaluating proposed process and material changes using Management of Change
    • Identifying and implementing initiatives to improve productivity and reduce waste and customer complaints
  • Provides technical and operational leadership as a member of the Ultracast team to improve process efficiencies, product quality and operating costs
  • Manages to and complies with all safety, hygiene, and environmental management systems to ensure a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace
  • Actively participates in Ultracast department committees; leads the Safety Field Team for the department
  • Interacts with all levels of the Sappi organization, internally and externally, to recommend, initiate and execute projects.
  • Coordinates all trial activity in Ultracast including product development and process, equipment, and engraved roll evaluations
  • Leads continuous improvement projects as assigned (LSS, RLSS, KT, Kaizen projects, etc.)

 

Special Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in use of computers and computer applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – experience with LSS and KT methodologies a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities to meet deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communications
  • Safety leadership in an industrial environment
  • Ability to effectively lead diverse groups including union workers, first-line supervisors, peers, and managers
  • Experience with paper and coating operations is preferred
