Sr. Technician/Lead Technician
This role is housed at Sappi’s Westbrook, Maine, R&D facility in the Engineering and Operations Group. The initial work will include learning the setup, operation, and maintenance of our pilot plant systems, along with assisting in all aspects of the roll recovering setup and operation at our facility in South Windham. In addition, this role will assist Facilities personnel with completing work orders and will learn, understand, and troubleshoot major building systems.
Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the set-up and operation of Pilot Coater and Coating Preparation equipment.
- Ability to learn & understand fundamentals of coating formulations and their make-up.
- Supporting Technology Center material handling responsibilities
- Effectively assist with all aspects of manufacturing support operations at the South Windham facility. This operation requires 24-hour coverage (12-hour shifts) for one week at a time, 2-4 times per year on average.
- Ability to complete facility work orders with general guidance.
- Ability to perform small to medium-sized design/modification to build projects for bench or pilot scale equipment
- Works effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
Requirements:
- Must learn and follow Lab safety procedures and policies, work safely, and perform work in a safe, reliable, and precise manner.
- Must possess strong mechanical skills. A two-year mechanical technology degree or equivalent is preferred.
- Attendance must be reliable and dependable.
- Ability to learn to operate various types of pilot coater process related equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems with various types of equipment or systems.
- Must adjust to constantly changing business needs and priorities while effectively maintaining work flow.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the Technology Center organization
- Must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude with specific operation experience with all typical hand tools / power tools.
- Must have computer skills and an understanding of their use in technical support (MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook)
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and general guidelines.
- Demonstrate both a sense of urgency to get things done and to get the job done well.
- Must be able to become certified to wear a half face mask respirator
- Ability to be trained to operate a fork truck, mobile elevated work platforms (MEWP) and/or other power industrial trucks
