Major Job Responsibilities:

Supervise Utilities and Recovery Department operations teams to maintain a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation in order to achieve maximum quality production at minimum cost.   This individual will lead, coach and help develop teams capable of running an effective operation with minimal intervention.

 

  • Assure a safe work environment
    • Be aware of and enforce relevant O.S.H.A. requirements and internal rules and procedures. 
    • Work with crews to insure a safe work environment.
    • Routinely conduct safety meetings with crews.

 

  • Lead, coach, and supply team members with the tools to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
    • Evaluate crew members to help them improve their individual performance.
    • Work with Maintenance on equipment problems and troubleshooting. Write work requests and prepare lockouts as necessary.
    • Make recommendations for process improvement, equipment changes, or new products.
    • Actively manage safety and drive safety performance on the team.
    • Assure all contractual commitments are met as specified by the Labor Agreement.
    • Provide help and leadership to employees.
    • Develop and update with operating teams.
    • Assure team members receive the necessary training to achieve high level performance.

 

  • Facilitate on-shift process improvement efforts to reduce process variability, increase uptime, improve quality and minimize costs.
    • Utilize the PI (Process Information) system and Proficy for operations monitoring and troubleshooting.
    • Achieve or exceed the operating budgets.

 

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent
  • Understanding of  Power Boilers, Turbine generators, Black Liquor Evaporators and Concentrator systems, Recovery Boilers, Lime Kiln, Recaust, and Water Treatment is required.
  • Maine Stationary Steam Engineers License
  • Computer knowledge – background in Microsoft suite, Proficy, PI, SAP  etc is preferred.
  • Understanding of human relations and supervision in an organized labor environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results personally and  through others.
